First and foremost, we focus on beautiful design and quality craftsmanship. We design and make our furniture to last a long time. In addition, we source eco-friendly materials. These include FSC certified woods, locally sourced domestic woods, reclaimed woods, and sustainable materials. All of our furniture features a low VOC hand applied oil finish. It soaks into the wood so there is no residue.
Clean Regularly – Soft cloth and dusting will do it, but pieces that get more use can use soapy warm water but make sure it is completely dry afterward. Gentle soaps are fine and nothing too harsh. Do not use polishes or other finishers.
Keep Used Surfaces Covered – Whenever you do something on wood furniture, you can compromise the quality. Cover up the used areas to protect the surface. Examples are writing on it, eating and drinking on it, placing and moving things on it. Little soft protection pads are helpful.
Monitor the Climate – Wood can swell in high humidity and shrink in low. You may need a humidifier and/or dehumidifier if you live in an area that experiences one extreme or another. A good reference is keeping the indoor humidity in the 30 to 45 percent range and the temperature in the 60 to 80 degree range all year long. Keep furniture away from direct sources of heating and cooling.
Deep Cleaning - The finish is durable and resistant to most household spills. However, spills should be wiped up promptly to avoid potential problems. For most routine cleaning, a soft cloth dampened with warm, soapy water will do the trick.
Sunshine - Direct sunshine will fade any wood, even indirect sunshine will fade it. Keep it out of sunshine.
Quick Repairs - One reason our solid hardwood furniture can last such a long time is because most damage is easy to fix. Anything made from cheap material tends to break easily and looks bad as soon as a nick or scratch get on it. Our wood, with a natural hand-rubbed oil finish, can easily take another application of a natural wood oil finish like tung oil or linseed oil - there are others too. It will soak into the wood and make the dissappear. If the scratches or discolorations are bad, then a light sanding can be done and then reapply the oil finish and it will look like new. It is best to consult a professional first to make sure it is done properly.
